Sigmar Polke
Last blog of the semester. Wowie. My personal favorite artist too. This man is a incredibly massive inspiration for my future art. Finding him off the cuff was just wonderful.
Sigmar Polke, a german artist, is versed in many types of art and uses that to his advantage in beautiful multi media artworks. He dips his hand into photography, painting, glass work, and probably more I haven't seen just yet. I primarily though was entranced by his silhouttes and photo/paintings, they seem to almost transcend form but at the same time when you look individually they are very simple.
Sigmer specifically inspired my first work, but i can feel that me and him have similar desires in art. I have never once considered my self a painter or a photographer, always just an artist. I want to find something in life and show it through many medias, not just one. That may mean I will never be famous or incredibly talented in one specific area but it is what I want. I want to feel the light of all the paths and dip my toes in many walks of life. Mr Polke reawakened that feeling. I was struggling artistically this semester but his works remind me that I don't need to follow the straight path, I can do what I like.
He's one of the few artists I wish I could meet. If he knows english. Now onto his specific art pieces, he has a certain habit that I find very interesting, highly detailed line/pen work for gorgeous drawings ontop of formless painting or textures that scrawl out ideas of objects. It is very pretty. Then his photos. He made paintings that come from the same technique i found myself in love with, being acid paintings. I think these two types are my main interest and that is why I chose Mr Polke to write about.
