Chip Simons

 Hello ANDREAS! I hath decided upon the man known as chip simons, because his work inspired the first of my color series! he seems pretty cool. i like the way he uses light and color, wow… almost as if that’s why you picked him. Anyways. it was a struggle to find his series as he doesn’t seem to have a website. however I did find one. That was his series on surrealism. I have to say, his use of scale in images is very masterful. And the perspectives are great too, it seems like he specifically enjoys using the fisheye lens/ distorting the scale of objects and people. I quite enjoy it because it takes me away from the real world, and makes his images more fantastical, which is his style, therefore it’s not distracting to me but instead sets the stage of his style and becomes a integration of the image.  I think my favorite of his works are the ones that are more based in real life but become almost fantastical in nature due to his style over the more surrealism, and especially ...

 Hey Teach, My first impression of Steve McCurry was, OH, this guy. I know him. The first photo I saw being the one of the girl covered in dirt. It was an instant recognition, and very striking, which means he already ranks high on my score sheet. The second/third thing I noticed was he has many portraits of kids who look like they’ve been traumatized and that he is considered a photojournalist, which sets the backdrop for maybe a War photographer? Either that or something similar. I’m not quite sure yet, but the next step I usually take is looking at an online gallery. BANG. Spot on, he was covering a war in Afghanistan. That’s the first series I chose to look at in his gallery. What I think he excels at is really grabbing the most emotion packed moment or expression and ham squeezing it with vibrancy, focus, and gorgeous colors. All of his portraits even in the war are gorgeous, but in a way they have a metaphorical contrast because of the whiplash of WHAT and WHERE he’s photogra...
